This section of the website will cover subjects mentioned on the main pages of the DanHatcher.com website in more detail. From great soccer stories, things to consider when picking the right level of play for your child, information about individual instruction, what to do about injuries and prevention of common soccer injuries to how to get your child noticed by college coaches.
There is really a whole lot to consider about your child and soccer no matter what level of play they end up doing. The youth soccer scene in Austin, Tx is one that for right now is thriving and growing by leaps and bound. The fact is, there are so many choices and directions to go that the prospects of figuring it all out can be a bit daunting. I remember when my oldest girl got into soccer, it was with the Georgetown Force Rec League. She was playing on a co-ed team and at the time we knew nothing of the Select Soccer Program. We were practicing at the fields one day and one of the select soccer coaches for the girls team was practicing on the field next to our and noticed that my daughter was not only keeping up with the boys on the team, but was beating most of them. That was the beginning of our experience in the world of girls select soccer. Megan went on to play with a large soccer scholarship at the college she wanted to go to since she was 13! I ended up saving about $30,000 on her tuition. Its was much better than any student work program a college can offer!
There are all sorts of colleges out there that are at different levels of play. What this means is that your child does not have to be a “Super Star” on the soccer field to get picked up by a university that is willing to pay part or all of their tuition! All you have to do is be in a position to be found by them. That means they need to be in a select soccer program.
So if your child has a love for soccer and a desire to take it somewhere other than the teen years, there is opportunity out there to do that for most soccer players with that desire.
Getting started in this unique world of US soccer is an adventure for families in itself. Youth soccer however, is not somehthing that goes very easy on the wallet. Especially if your child is in “Select Soccer.” Cost in the Austin area range from $500 to $2400.00 per year. That does not include the cost of travel. There are programs and methods in place so that anyone who really wants to play can. That is another good thing about the soccer community. Many teams also opt to do cookie dough fundraising or some other type product fundraiser for the really big trips.
My hope is that you find in it what me and my family have. It’s great family fun and a means for everyone
to do something together that will have a lifelong effect.
May your adventure be glorious!
